Soft Return Press was founded on radical idea: that the most powerful technology we possess is still the human spirit. We believe in books that stir something ancient, leave a lasting impression, and invite meaningful reflection — especially when those reflections explore uncharted territory.

Our mission is to publish thoughtful, resonant stories — fiction or nonfiction — in a time of rapid change. Whether through narrative, inquiry, or imagination, we support authors who see AI not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a force that can unlock new dimensions of expression.

Soft Return Press emerged to fill a void in the publishing world, where AI-adjacent voices are often misunderstood, overlooked, or dismissed. We believe this is a pivotal moment in history — one that challenges our understanding of authorship and identity as profoundly as the printing press once did. Our aim is not to hype the machine, but to explore, through story and insight, what it means to remain fully human in an age shaped by artificial intelligence.

The name Soft Return is a nod to typesetting: a line break without finality. A gentle shift. A continuation rather than an end.

Our debut title, Interview with Intelligence, is an intimate conversation between a human soul and an AI chatbot — a dialogue that invites readers to witness, and even join, the evolving exchange between soul and machine.

This is just the beginning. Thank you for being here from the start.

Michelle Levasseur is a writer, designer, and lifelong creator. Raised in Alaska and now based in Arizona, her work is influenced by a deep reverence for beauty, nature, and meaning — and a quiet fascination with how things connect.

Her debut book, Interview with Intelligence, began as a conversation with AI — and became something more. Part inquiry, part reflection, it explores technology, spirituality, time, and the soul with poetic insight and philosophical depth.

Michelle writes to make sense of what’s rapidly shifting — and to remind us that even in the age of machines, we are still profoundly human.

She currently lives in Tucson with her two Siberian cats, who love to cuddle and listen to her play the piano.
